Konkan Expressway: To go from Mumbai to Goa, you have to travel for at least 10 to 12 hours. It costs more and also takes time, but after the completion of Konkan Expressway, this journey will be completed in just 6 hours. This expressway is 95 percent complete and will soon be ready for your service.
New Expressway: An expressway is being built in the country, which is built on the lines of the Pacific Highway built in California, USA. The construction work of this expressway started 14 years ago, which is now close to completion. Once this expressway is ready, the time taken for the journey will be halved. While it takes 12 hours right now, this journey can be completed in just 6 hours. The expressway is so beautiful that walking on it is no less than a picnic. High green mountains on one side and the view of the sea on the other side will fill you with excitement.
We are talking about the Konkan Expressway going from Mumbai to Goa. The construction work of this expressway, which has been waiting for 14 years, is now in its final stage. The 6 lane access-controlled highway will reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Goa from 12 hours to 6 hours. This 376 km long expressway is being built along the Konkan coast, so it will be called ‘Konkan Expressway’. A 120 km stretch road will also be built along the expressway, thus the total distance will be 498 km, which can be covered in just 6 hours.
Construction started in 2011
Since the construction work started in the year 2011, this project has faced many obstacles. Due to repeated extension of the date, its cost also doubled. According to NHAI, the work of the stretch road being built on this expressway is almost complete. This road is being built in two parts. First from Panvel to Kasu (42.3 km) and Kasu to Indapur (42.3 km). 146 hectares of forest land has also had to be acquired for the expressway.
41 tunnels will be built on the expressway
Konkan Expressway will also be known for important infrastructure. Tunnels and bridges are being built to cross the difficult roads and rivers, mountains of the Konkan region. About 41 tunnels and 21 big bridges will be built on the Konkan Expressway. There will also be 41 small bridges in different districts on this route. The largest bridge has been built on Dharamtar Creek in Karja, which is 10.2 km long. The total length of 7 big bridges will be about 27 km.
How much money is spent and what is the route
The estimated cost for the construction of Konkan Expressway is about Rs 68,000 crore. This also includes the cost of acquisition of about 3,792 hectares of land. Out of this, about 146 hectares of land belongs to the Forest Department. The Konkan Expressway will connect Panvel (Navi Mumbai) to Sindhudurg, including Raigad and Ratnagiri. This expressway will cover 17 talukas and 232 villages of 3 districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. 14 interchanges have been built on the expressway.
