New FASTag rule will applicable from Monday; know this or else you will be charged double

FASTag New Rules: The rules related to FASTag are going to change from Monday. NPCI has recently issued a circular, which gives information about the new FASTag rules. If you cross the toll with your vehicle, then it is very important for you to know these rules. If you are not aware of these rules, then you may have to pay double the money.

FASTag New Rules: If your car has FASTag, then you should be aware of the new FASTag balance validation rules implemented by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). NPCI has recently issued a circular, which gives information about the new FASTag rules. These new rules may affect your toll payment and will come into effect from February 17, 2025. So let us know what changes are going to happen in FASTag from February 17 and what will be the impact on those using it.

What will change

On 28 January 2025, NPCI issued a circular. According to this, if your FASTag is blacklisted 60 minutes before the FASTag is read at the toll or gets blacklisted even 10 minutes after crossing the toll, then the payment will be rejected at the toll plaza. This means that if you are traveling on the highway, keep your FASTag recharged in advance, because there will be no benefit in recharging at the last minute.

You will have to pay double toll tax

If you ignore this new rule, you may face code 176. In simple language, code 176 means that the payment from FASTag may be rejected or there may be an error in it. According to the new rule, if your payment is rejected at the toll plaza, you will have to pay double the toll tax. If you want to avoid extra charges, recharge your FASTag 60 minutes before crossing the toll and also ensure that it is not blacklisted.

What is a blacklisted FASTag

A FASTag placed in the blacklist or hotlist indicates that it has been deactivated due to a few reasons:

  • Low Balance
  • Expiration of KYC document timeline
  • Legal disputes related to vehicle
  • Blacklisted tags will not be able to be used at toll plazas until the issue is resolved.
