Delhi Liquor Policy: After the shortage of stock in the country’s capital Delhi and the announcement of the new liquor policy approved by the UP government, the people of Delhi can turn to Noida and Gurugram to buy liquor. In the new liquor policy approved by the UP government, many options have been given for the people fond of alcohol.
Earlier in January, the Delhi government implemented the sales-based point system. Small and medium liquor companies had objected to this new policy of the government and said that it would benefit big stores and increase inequalities in the market. Under the sales-based point system, liquor sales points were limited only to brands registered with the Delhi Excise Department.
What are the people associated with the market saying?
People associated with the market say that due to priority given to big brands, imbalance has been created in the market. Roshini Sanah Jaiswal, promoter of Jagatjit Industries, told Mint that Delhi customers are free to choose the product. But if big brands are given priority in this way, then how will new and domestic brands be able to survive in the market?
Will Noida-Gurugram become an option?
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the new excise policy for the financial year 2025-26. Under this, an e-lottery system has been implemented, through which liquor and cannabis shops will be allotted. In such a situation, people of Delhi can turn to Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad to buy liquor, especially people of East and North Delhi can turn to Ghaziabad.
The portal was down in September
At the same time, liquor sales in Delhi are completely done through government-run agencies. The entire process involves four government organizations – Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC), Delhi Consumers Co-operative Wholesale Store (DCCWS).
Apart from this, the portal of the Excise Department of Delhi was down in September 2024, due to which restaurants and liquor shops faced a lot of problems in placing orders and updating stock. Due to this, the availability of liquor in the market was affected.
