The Narendra Modi government at the Center has started an important mission to reduce the import of palm oil. This mission has been named National Edible Oil-Palm Oil Mission (NMEO-OP).
Under this, farmers are also given assistance for palm cultivation. Now the government has increased the assistance amount, while there has also been talk of financial help for planting saplings.
How much help is available: Earlier 12 thousand rupees were given per hectare for the cultivation of palm, which has been increased to 29 thousand rupees per hectare. Apart from this, assistance has also been increased during maintenance and crops. For the revival of old orchards, special assistance is being given at the rate of Rs.250 per plant, i.e., for planting one sapling, Rs.250 will be given.
To overcome the shortage of plantation equipment in the country, assistance will be given to the seed growing orchards. Under this, assistance of up to Rs 80 lakh will be given for 15 hectares in other places of India. At the same time, in the Northeast and Andaman regions, this assistance amount has been fixed at Rs 1 crore on 15 hectares. Apart from this, Rs 40 lakh has been fixed for seed orchards in rest of India, besides Rs 50 lakh for Northeast and Andaman regions. There is also a provision of special assistance to the Northeast and Andaman.
What is NMEO-OP Scheme: National Edible Oil-Palm Oil Mission (NMEO-OP) is a new scheme sponsored by the Centre. Its focus is on the northeast regions and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A financial outlay of Rs 11,040 crore has been earmarked for this scheme. In this, the central government will bear Rs 8,844 crore. At the same time, 2,196 crores have to be borne by the states. In this, a system has also been included to compensate for that loss in case of expenditure more than income.
