Traveling on the roof of a train

According to the Indian Railways Rules, if a person is caught traveling on the roof of a train, he may have to face imprisonment of 3 months or a fine of Rs 500 under Section 156 of the Railway Act.

Railway ticket brokering

According to the Indian Railways Rules, no person can do ticket brokerage. If a person is caught doing this, then under Section-143 of the Railway Act, he can be fined Rs 10,000 or jailed for 3 years.

Selling goods on railway premises

No goods can be sold or hawked without prior permission in any railway premises of the country (Indian Railways Rules). If caught in this crime, the accused can be fined up to 2 thousand rupees and imprisoned for 1 year under section 144 of the Railway Act.

Travel in upper class compartment

If you are found traveling in a higher class compartment than the ticket you have, then you can be punished under Section-138 of the Railway Act (Indian Railways Rules). For this, the fare up to your maximum distance and a fine of Rs 250 can be taken. You can also be taken into custody for not paying this fine.
