NHAI: To provide relief to the common man from the long traffic jams at the toll plazas on the highway, NHAI is making preparations to provide relief to the common man. Under this, now after getting a pass once, you will be able to cross the toll plaza without paying toll fee for lifetime.

Toll Plaza on Highway: If everything goes well, then in the coming time, traveling on highways within the country will become very easy and convenient. Many media reports are claiming that the Government of India is planning to introduce annual and lifetime toll passes. Through this, there is a plan to give the experience of traveling without any hassle and at low cost to the people who often travel on the highway. The purpose of the plan is to reduce the crowd at the toll plaza and provide a cheaper option to the existing toll payment system.

How will this toll pass work?

According to the Times of India (TOI) report, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is in the final stages of reviewing this proposal. Under the new system, those passing through the toll will have two options. First, they will be able to get an annual toll pass, which will be available on payment of Rs 3000. Through this pass, one will be able to travel on national highways and expressways for one year. Similarly, the lifetime toll pass will be valid for 15 years. This pass will be available on payment of Rs 30,000, this will eliminate the need to pay toll repeatedly. If reports are to be believed, these passes will be included in the existing FASTag system.

This system will be implemented in Fastag itself.

If the pass system is implemented on the highway, then changes can be made in Fastag easily without any extra equipment or expense. Currently, those who travel frequently on the highway can only take monthly toll passes. The monthly toll pass costs Rs 340 per month or Rs 4,080 per year. However, these passes are less convenient for such people because they have validity only at one toll plaza. Removing this limit will make the proposed annual and lifetime toll passes even better. This will allow users to travel on all toll roads across the country without any interruption and easily.

26% of toll booths are available to private vehicles.

It is expected that the new system will greatly benefit vehicle owners who frequently travel on national highways. Private vehicles currently contribute 26% of the total toll revenue and are a major cause of traffic jams at toll booths, especially during peak hours. The government hopes that by simplifying the toll collection process, the time spent at the toll can be reduced and the option of unlimited travel can be provided to those who regularly travel on the highway. This will also provide necessary financial relief to the people.

To reduce the financial burden on users, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is considering ways to reduce toll fees per km along with introducing annual and lifetime passes. In a recent interview, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the government has completed its research on the concern of toll tax and is preparing to implement a scheme to redress the complaints.
