New Telecom Act: Telecommunication Act 2023 has come into force. The new rules are effective from June 26. Technology advancement has been talked about a lot in the new telecom law. In this, many rules of the previous law have been changed. Under the new rules, the government now has more power than before.
In this, the government can take control of any telecommunication service or network during an emergency. According to the gazette, the government can take control of any telecom service for security reasons, public orders or prevention of crimes.
How many SIM cards can a person buy?
Messages sent by journalists approved by the state and central government have been kept out of surveillance in such a situation. However, if there is any threat to the security of the country due to any report, then the calls and messages of that journalist can be monitored.
Apart from this, a big change is regarding the SIM cards of the people. A person can register only 9 SIM cards in his name. At the same time, this number is 6 for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and North East States. According to the rules of DoT, only 9 SIM cards can be taken on any one ID or Aadhar card.
Penalty will be imposed for having more SIM cards
If you have more SIM cards than the prescribed number, you may be fined. For the first time this fine is Rs 50 thousand, while for the second time it is Rs 2 lakh. The fine for getting a SIM card fraudulently is Rs 50 lakh and imprisonment up to 3 years.
At the same time, there is also a fine for sending commercial messages by the telecom operator without the permission of the user. Under the Telecommunication Act 2023, a fine of Rs 2 lakh can be imposed on the company. Along with this, the government can now order installation of towers and laying of cables in private properties also.
