Penalty for driving a minor
According to Indian traffic rules, the age of valid driving license in India is 18 years. As per the rule, if a person under age is found to be driving a vehicle on the roads in the country, then his parent or guardian can face a jail term of up to 3 years and a fine of ₹ 25,000. Also, the driver who was driving the vehicle will not be able to get a driving license till the age of 25 years.

Within 15 days of getting the challan, the vehicle owner-driver will have to deposit the fine. Failure to do so will result in recovery action by submitting a challan in the District and Sessions Court. Therefore it is your responsibility to allow the child to drive only after reaching the legal age to drive.

According to the rules, children below the age of 16 are not allowed to drive any kind of vehicle. However, minors in the age group of 16 to 18 years can only drive vehicles without gear.
