New Traffic Rules and Fines in Delhi: Violation of traffic rules plays a major role in road accidents in India. The government is trying to curb this by tightening the traffic rules.

Traffic Laws In Delhi: If you take traffic rules lightly while driving, then be alert now! There is going to be a big change in the traffic rules from March 1, 2025. ACP Ashish Kumar of Karol Bagh, Delhi has shared the fine rate list giving information about this on the social media platform X.

Under the new rules, there is a provision of heavy fines and strict punishment for violations of many traffic rules. Especially the fines for offenses like drunk driving, driving without helmet, overspeeding and not giving way to emergency vehicles have been increased manifold.

Heavy punishment for drunk driving

If you are driving after drinking alcohol, then now you will not get a chance to escape by just paying a nominal fine. According to the new rules, if caught for the first time, you can be fined ₹ 10,000 and / or 6 months in jail. If you repeat the same mistake again, you can be fined ₹15,000 and/or jailed for 2 years. Earlier, there was a provision for a fine of only 1000 to 1500 rupees.

Strictness on driving without helmet and seat belt

Rules have also been tightened for two-wheeler drivers. Now, a fine of ₹1,000 will be imposed for driving without a helmet and the license will be suspended for three months. At the same time, a fine of ₹1,000 will be imposed for not wearing a seat belt in the car. Using a mobile phone while driving can now be even more expensive. Earlier its fine was ₹500, which has been increased to ₹5,000.

What will happen if caught without valid documents?

If you do not have the necessary documents of your vehicle (driving license, insurance, pollution certificate), then you may have to face a heavy penalty: Not having a valid insurance can result in a fine of Rs 2,000 or 3 months imprisonment or both. If caught again for the same violation, a fine of ₹ 4,000 will have to be paid. At the same time, not having a valid pollution certificate can lead to a fine of ₹ 10,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment.

If caught driving without a driving license, a straight fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed. At the same time, a fine of ₹ 1,000 will have to be paid for triple riding (three riders on one bike). If caught jumping a red signal, a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed. At the same time, a fine of Rs 10,000 will have to be paid for not giving way to emergency vehicles (such as ambulances).

The strictest rules for minors

If a person under the age of 18 is caught driving, a hefty fine of Rs 25,000 will be imposed. Earlier, the fine was only Rs 2,500. Apart from this, the registration of the vehicle will also be canceled for 1 year. Also, the minor driver will not get a driving license until the age of 25.
