Finance Minister Sitharaman’s office said on Twitter, “During her day-long visit to Chennai, Sitharaman stopped at Mylapore market in Chennai, where she interacted with vendors and local residents and also bought vegetables.”

Nirmala Sitharaman interacts with local vendors at Sabzi Mandi in Chennai
In a video shared by Sitharaman’s office on Saturday, the Union Finance Minister can be seen inspecting vegetables and even interacting with vendors.
As per the pictures shared by her office on Twitter, Sitharaman can be seen picking vegetables, while another set of pictures also showed her interest in some bitter gourd.
The Minister inaugurated Anand Karuna Vidyalaya, a multidisciplinary center for children with special needs, in Chennai. After visiting the local vegetable market, she left for New Delhi.
Vegetables are one of the major commodities at the center of rising inflation in the country. Keeping this in mind, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier said that the government is making efforts to keep inflation below 4 per cent and steps are being taken to ensure that people get essential items on time and at reasonable prices.
