The situation of air pollution in Delhi-NCR has become critical again. Schools from class 1 to 8 have been closed in Noida till November 8, while primary schools in the capital Delhi will remain closed till further orders.

Why is Odd-Even being mentioned?

Recently, during the announcement of closure of schools, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also said to consider implementing the Odd-Even scheme to curb air pollution. Let us know what is the odd-even scheme, which the Delhi government is considering to implement.

What is odd-even scheme

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has been implementing the odd-even scheme for vehicles on the roads to reduce air pollution. The odd-even scheme has been implemented several times in the months of November and December. In this, there is a provision to drive even numbered vehicles on the even date, while odd numbered vehicles are allowed on the road on the odd days.

Which vehicles are allowed to drive on odd days

Under the Odd-Even scheme, the vehicles whose registration number has the last digit in the odd (1,3,5,7,9) are not allowed to ply on the roads on 4th, 6th, 8th, 12th and 14th.

These vehicles will run on the day of even

Similarly, vehicles whose last digit of registration number is even (0,2,4,6,8) are allowed to ply on roads on 5th, 7, 9th, 11th, 13th and 15th.

Which vehicles will get the discount?

Under the odd-even scheme, in Delhi, along with CNG-powered vehicles, electric vehicles will also be exempted, while the odd-even scheme will be strictly enforced on petrol and diesel vehicles. There is no requirement of odd-even number for CNG and electric vehicles.
