Ola-Uber: Centre issues notice to Ola-Uber, asks 'Why are fares different on iPhone and Android?'

Ola-Uber News: This notice has been sent to Ola and Uber regarding the different prices being shown on Android and iOS. This notice was issued by the Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA).

Ola-Uber News: The central government has sent a notice to Ola and Uber and sought answers. The Center asked why the fares are being shown differently for different phone users? Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has given this information by posting on X.

According to the report of news agency PTI, Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said on Thursday (January 23, 2025) that the Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a notice to cab service providers Ola and Uber for allegedly pricing differently for travel to the same place depending on the user’s mobile operating system Android or iOS.

Different fares on iPhone and Android

Joshi wrote on the social media platform, “The Department of Consumer Affairs has issued a notice to major cab drivers Ola and Uber through CCPA and sought answers from them for taking different payments for booking the same place through different mobiles (iPhone and Android).

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi had said last month that consumer exploitation would not be tolerated at all and asked the CCPA to investigate these allegations thoroughly. He described such activities as a disregard of the consumers’ right to transparency.

The post went viral on social media

In December 2024, the matter gained momentum when an ex-user shared a picture of two phones, which allegedly showed different fares for a particular place on the Uber app. As soon as his post went viral, Uber responded to the allegations and denied that different fares were shown because of the phone.
