Old pension scheme has become an election issue
However, the debate to implement the old pension scheme started from Rajasthan, where the Congress-ruled government announced to implement it again. After Rajasthan, there was competition in some non-BJP ruled states to implement it. Not only this, it has also become an election issue. Political parties are promising to restore the old pension in the elections.
‘Maharashtra government positive about old pension’
In this episode, positive signs have been received regarding the old pension scheme from the BJP-ruled state of Maharashtra as well. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Saturday that the state government is positive about the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for teachers and government employees. He said that the State Education Department is studying the OPS.
Addressing a rally for the upcoming Legislative Council elections, Eknath Shinde said the state government would respond with its work to the opposition’s allegations of signing investment proposals at the recently held Davos summit.

He said, “The government has taken a positive stand regarding old pension scheme for teachers and government employees, unaided schools and 25 per cent reservation in English medium schools. The education department is studying OPS.
At the same time, the old pension is not applicable in most of the states, so now the organizations of central and state government employees have also planned a nationwide movement. In view of this, a nationwide conference will be organized in Delhi on 21 January.
