Government employees of Himachal Pradesh will protest outside the assembly on Saturday i.e. today, demanding the restoration of the old pension scheme. Pradeep Thakur, president of the New Pension Scheme Employees Federation (NPSKM), who is leading the protest, said the agitation was needed as the Jai Ram Thakur-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government was unable to restore the old pension scheme despite several requests. has failed. He said that the employees would reach Chaura Maidan on Saturday, the last day of the ongoing monsoon session of the state legislature, to participate in the ‘Pension Rights Rally’.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Shimla Police said that NPSKM has been granted permission to protest at Ambedkar Chowk in Chaura Maidan from 10 am to 12.30 pm. The police have asked the protesters to ensure that they do not take out processions or obstruct vehicular movement.
Employees get this much pension under the new scheme
During the budget session on March 3, the employees of the state demonstrated outside the assembly demanding the implementation of the old pension scheme. Under the old pension scheme, the entire pension amount was given by the government.
This scheme was discontinued in the country from April 1, 2004. As per the new scheme, the employees contribute 10 per cent of their salary to the pension while the state government contributes 14 per cent.
