MUMBAI: After Dombivli and Thane, the Manickpur police in Vasai, APMC police in Navi Mumbai and Naupada police in Thane registered cases against Goodwin Jewellers.
On Monday, around 500 customers from Vasai approached the Manickpur police who filed a case under the relevant sections of the Maharashtra Protection of Depositors Interest in Financial Establishments Act, while 200 people who had deposited in the gold purchase scheme at Goodwin Jewellers’ Vashi branch reached APMC police station.
“As the amount is estimated to around Rs 7 crore, the case has been transferred to Economic Offences Wing,” said inspector (crime) B Sayyad of APMC police station.
The Naupada police in Thane on Tuesday registered a fresh criminal case for duping nearly 68 investors of nearly Rs 1.7 crore, said senior inspector Anil Mangale.
Among those who filed complaints on Tuesday were Dombivli resident Rakesh Mishra, who had invested Rs 40 lakh after selling his land in his hometown five years ago. “I was to get Rs 50 lakh, including the interest, in December. I had planned to use the money to fund my son’s education and sister’s wedding.”
