Islamabad: A Pakistan court directed the federal government to give India another chance to appoint a lawyer to represent Kulbhushan Jadhav. With this, the court postponed the hearing in the case for a month
The Islamabad High Court noted the issue of appointment of a lawyer during a review of the death sentence pronounced by a Pakistani military court for Jadhav. Jadhav, a 50-year-old retired Indian Army officer, was sentenced to death in April 2017 by a Pakistani military court on charges of “espionage and terrorism”.

Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan told the court that Pakistan granted India ‘consular’ access to follow the orders of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). However, he has not responded to Pakistan’s proposal to appoint a lawyer for Jadhav. The court, after hearing the arguments, ordered the government to send orders on Jadhav to India. With this, the court adjourned the hearing of the case till October 3.
