Pakistani government blocks SIM card if ITR is not filed

ITR Filing, SIM Cards Blocked: In this country, SIM cards of those who do not file income tax have been blocked. Not only this, the money of those who load mobile balance is also being deducted.

Filing Income Tax Return is one of the most important tasks, whether you are living in India or any other country. If ITR is not filed on time, strict action is taken against the taxpayers. In Pakistan, even the SIM cards of those who do not file income tax have been blocked. Telecom operators in Pakistan have blocked mobile phone SIMs of more than 3,500 non-filers. Telecom operators had promised this to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). An ANI report quoting The Express Tribune said that its aim was to motivate 5,06,671 people to file their returns for 2023.

FBR also sent messages to about 5,000 people

The FBR also sent messages to around 5,000 people, warning them that their SIMs would be blocked if they did not file their returns. It has also sought information about blocked SIMs from telecom operators.

As already informed, the Board has sent the second batch of 5,000 non-filers to the telecom companies, which had agreed to start the manual blocking process of SIMs in small batches. An ANI report quoting The Express Tribune said that sources said that an automatic system will be started by telecom companies to verify the SIMs being blocked. Telecom companies had submitted a report to the FBR during its meeting on Saturday on sending messages and blocking the SIMs of the first batch of non-filers.

If mobile balance is loaded, money will be deducted automatically.

Under the decision, 90 percent withholding tax will be deducted through an automatic system from the mobile balance loaded by prepaid and postpaid non-filers. This means that if a non-filer loads mobile balance of 100 PKR, 90 PKR will be automatically deducted and transferred to FBR. Sources said that if ITR is not filed despite the SIM being blocked, then they will have to pay 90 percent additional tax on whatever new SIM they buy.
