Pan and Aadhar Linking: The government has collected more than Rs 600 crore as penalty for delay in linking PAN with Aadhaar. Still around 11.48 crore PAN numbers are not linked to Aadhaar. This information was given in the Parliament today. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that the number of PANs not linked to Aadhaar by January 29, 2024, excluding the exempted category, is 11.48 crore.

The last date for linking PAN with biometric Aadhaar was 30 June 2023. If a person fails to link his Aadhaar and PAN by 30 June 2023 and links Aadhaar and PAN after that, he can do so by paying a fine.

A fine of Rs 1,000 has been charged from individuals not linking their PAN and Aadhaar after the deadline of June 30, 2023, while linking PAN-Aadhaar. Those who have not linked their PAN and Aadhaar have received a charge of Rs 601.97 crore for linking their PAN with Aadhaar from July 1, 2023 to January 31, 2024.

The Income Tax Department has said that if taxpayers do not link their Aadhaar with PAN, it will become inactive from July 1, 2023. No refund will be made against such PAN. Also, tax was deducted at higher interest rate on TDS and TCS. PAN can be reactivated by paying a late fee of Rs 1,000.
