Parliamentary committee formed, Shashi Tharoor given charge of Foreign Affairs Committee, see list

Parliamentary committee formed, Shashi Tharoor given charge of Foreign Affairs Committee, see list

The permanent committees of the Parliament have been formed. BJP’s Bhartruhari Mahtab will be the chairman of the Finance Committee while Congress’ Shashi Tharoor will head the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs. Also, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has been made a member of the Defense Committee. However, Sonia Gandhi’s name is not in any committee.

The standing committees of Parliament have been formed. BJP’s Bhartruhari Mahtab will be the chairman of the Finance Committee while Congress’ Shashi Tharoor will head the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has been made a member of the Defense Committee. However, Sonia Gandhi’s name is not in any committee.

These committees monitor the functioning of various ministries

Apart from BJP’s major allies like TDP and JDU, its allies in the poll bound state Maharashtra, Shiv Sena and NCP will head one committee each. A notification in this regard was issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat on Thursday. These permanent parliamentary committees of different ministries include representatives of all parties. These committees monitor the functioning of various ministries.

The Committee on Defence will be headed by former Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh. The Committee on Home Affairs will be headed by BJP MP Radha Mohan Das Aggarwal. NCP’s lone Lok Sabha member Sunil Tatkare will head the Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas and Shiv Sena’s Shrirang Appa Barne will head the Committee on Energy. JDU’s Sanjay Jha will head the Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, while TDP’s Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy will head the Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs.

Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi has been made the chairman of the committees on agriculture, animal husbandry and food processing and Saptagiri Ulaka has been made the chairman of the committees on rural development and panchayati raj. DMK’s Tiruchi Siva and K Kanimozhi will chair the committees on industry and consumer affairs, food and public distribution respectively.

Anurag Thakur got this responsibility

Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur has been given the chairmanship of the Coal, Mines and Steel and Rajiv Pratap Rudy has been given the chairmanship of the Water Resources Committee. BJP member Nishikant Dubey has been made the chairman of the Communications and Information Technology Committee.

The committee on health will be headed by SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav while Trinamool leaders Dola Sen and Kirti Azad will head the committees on commerce and chemicals and fertilizers respectively. The committee on personnel, public grievances, law and justice will be headed by BJP’s Brij Lal, a former DGP of Uttar Pradesh.

BJP’s PC Mohan will head the committee on social justice and empowerment
Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Mishra are also members of this committee. BJP members Bhubaneswar Kalita and Basavaraj Bommai will chair the committees on Science and Technology, Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Labor respectively.

The Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment will be headed by BJP’s PC Mohan while the Committee on Railways will be headed by CM Ramesh.
