According to official information, the central government has amended the passport application process, making birth certificate mandatory for people born on or after October 1, 2023. This means that birth certificate will have to be given to verify the date of birth.

What is the new rule for making passport

The central government has made an important change in the process of making passport in India and has decided that from now on, people born on or after 1 October 2023 will have to show their birth certificate to make a passport. Let us tell you, many important documents have to be shown for passport, in which residence certificate, driving license, PAN card, Aadhar card are necessary, but now according to the amended rules, it is necessary to show the birth certificate.

No other document will be used to confirm date of birth

People who are born after 1 October 2023 will now have to show birth certificate to confirm the date of birth, but people born before 1 October 2023 can still use optional documents like driving license, school leaving certificate, PAN card, Aadhar card to verify their date of birth.

Why the new rule was introduced

Passport is a very important document, so to ensure that no person misuses this document, the central government has amended the rules in the passport process. In such a situation, due to showing the birth certificate, people’s real date of birth will be known. Also, the cases of fraud committed by those who claim to make fake passports will be reduced.

Changes in residential information as well

Keeping in mind the privacy of the people making passports, now the residential address should not be printed on the last page of the passport. Instead, immigration officers will be able to access this information by scanning the barcode embedded in the document.

Color coding and change in parents’ name

The government has also introduced a color-coding scheme for passports. Under the amended rules, government officials will continue to get white passports, diplomats will get red passports and common citizens will get blue passports. Along with this, the name of the parents will not be written on the last page of the passport.
