In the month of November, pensioners have to submit their life certificate or life certificate in banks. At present there are about 69.76 lakh central government pensioners. While submitting the life certificate, pensioners have to provide Aadhaar number, name, mobile number and self-declared pension related information like PPO number, pension account number, bank details, name of pension sanctioning authority. Apart from this, the pensioner will also have to provide his biometrics or fingerprint. If you do not have a 12 digit PPO number (Pension Payment Order) then you will not be able to submit the life certificate. PPO number is allotted to every pensioner.
Importance of PPO number
PPO number enables pensioners to keep track of their pension and also helps in getting notified when it is received. PPO number can be obtained immediately after pensioners apply for it through the Member Service Portal of EPFO.
It is also mandatory to have PPO number while submitting the Annual Life Certificate. If an EPS subscriber fails to submit the life certificate, his pension may be stopped. This is also mandatory for receiving pension in any new bank account.
How to know your PPO number
Step 1: Log on to www.epfindia.gov.in
Step 2: Click on Pensioners Portal under Online Services
Step 3: You will be redirected to ‘Welcome to Pensioners Portal’. Click on ‘Know your PPO number’ which will be on the right side of the page.
Step 4: Enter your bank account number or PF number. After entering the information, you will receive your PPO number, as well as your member ID and pension type.
Step 5: Click on ‘Download’
