After embezzlement of crores of rupees in the treasuries of Uttarakhand, now the verification of pensioners has been made mandatory before payment of pension.
Aadhar card is being asked from the pensioners while presenting the living certificate. Along with this, OTP is being sent on the registered mobile number. The process of pension is proceeding only after OTP verification.
Recently, huge fraud in pension was caught in the state treasuries. Treasury employees have defrauded the government of more than five crore rupees by transferring pensions of a large number of deceased pensioners to their own and relatives’ accounts. So far ten employees have been sent to jail in this case.
To eliminate this mess, now the process of pension payment is being made stricter. Under the new system, OTP is being sent from Treasury to the mobile of the pensioners presenting the living certificate. Along with OTP, Aadhar card and PAN card have also been made mandatory.
Director Treasury Pankaj Tiwari told that the process is being made full proof so that there should be no disturbance in pension payment. He said that OTP is being sent on the mobile numbers given by the pensioners at the time of starting the pension.
If the numbers have changed, then arrangements have been made to register the new number with proof.
Strictly increase the troubles of the pensioners
Due to the process of verification, the problems of the pensioners have increased. There are hundreds of such pensioners whose OTP is not being received on their mobile. Many pensioners do not have phones at all. Many people have not registered their numbers in the treasury in the past. There are also pensioners who do not know how to operate a phone.
In such a situation, there is a problem in not being with any other member in the family. Umesh Jadli, who retired from the education department, said that many of his colleagues are facing the problem of OTP. Pensioners Ramesh Kala said that due to lack of verification, the process of their pension could not proceed for two weeks.
Till now for 50 lakh pensioners
Pensioners had to give life certificate to the treasury once a year. For this, pensioners were not required to go to the treasury and they could send this document to anyone. But after the fraud was caught, now the Treasury has made it mandatory for pensioners to provide life certificates as well as OTP on Aadhaar, PAN card and registered number. There are 1. 50 lakh pensioners in Uttarakhand.
