While making a big announcement for the pensioners, the government has said that the pension for the month of May can be stopped for those whose bank accounts are not yet connected with the Aadhar card.
The UP government has given the last date for all pensioners to link their bank accounts with Aadhar card till May 15. It is noteworthy that at present there are about 25 lakh pensioners in the state on whom this decision will be affected.
According to official data, even 10 per cent of the pensioners have not linked their bank accounts with Aadhaar number, the details of 112,000 pensioners are yet to be updated in Gorakhpur district alone. The social welfare department of the state government has given extension till May 15 to link the Aadhaar number with the bank account. Those who will not be able to do this even by May 15, their pension will be stopped.
It is noteworthy that the government has instructed the pensioners to get their Aadhaar numbers updated on the pension portal as soon as possible after the cases of irregularities in old age pension came to the fore. Many a times it was found that the same person is getting two pensions. In such a situation, updating the Aadhaar number will stop all such frauds.

If you also want to get your Aadhaar number linked on the pension portal, then you can get the information updated on the pension portal through your nearest internet cafe, Panchayat Sahayak or Sahaj Jan Seva Kendra. For this, the beneficiary will have to carry his Aadhar card, bank passbook and his registered mobile for OTP with him. It is also worth noting here that in addition to old age pension, it has now been made mandatory to have Aadhaar number for widow and disabled pension also.

The UP government provides financial assistance of 1000 rupees per month to the elderly who are above 60 years of age through the old age pension scheme. This pension amount is directly transferred to the account itself. A pension portal has also been created for this.
