New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices were revised downwards for the third consecutive day on Saturday in what seems to be a huge relief for citizens. It may be noted that the prices of both essential fuels fell steeply.
Prices of petrol fell steeply by almost 38-40 paise and is retailing at Rs 81.99 per litre in Delhi. In Mumbai, a litre of petrol would now cost Rs 87.46 in comparison to almost Rs 88 per litre a day ago. In Kolkata, too, the price came down from the Rs 84-mark; it is now retailing at Rs 83.83 per litre.
The reduction in petrol prices over the last few days has also helped stabilisation of prices in cities such as Patna and Trivandrum where the rates for petrol are among the highest.
In Noida, the price of petrol has come down below the Rs 80-mark—something that has attracted more citizens to come from neighbouring states. As of now, Chandigarh seems to have the lowest rate at Rs 77.41 per litre.
On the other hand, diesel price was reduced by 12 paise, taking its price in the national capital to Rs 75.36. In Mumbai, a litre of diesel will now cost Rs 79 in comparison to Rs 79.13 per litre a day ago. In Chennai, too, the diesel rates have come down to Rs 79.75 per litre.
It may be noted that the diesel rates are highest in Trivandrum (Rs 80.74/litre) and Bhubaneshwar (Rs 81.21/litre) and Hyderabad (Rs 81.97/litre). The rates have stabilised in both Gurugram and Noida, where the rates are Rs 74.21 per litre and Rs 73.44 per litre respectively.
The recent drop in fuel prices comes in the backdrop of reducing Brent crude oil prices, which is trading at $79.78 per barrel; it had gone up to $86 per barrel recently. The rupee’s recovery has also played a big role in the stabilisation of oil prices.
It is worth mentioning that fuel prices were cut for the first time in 12 days on Thursday, following which prices dipped further on Friday and finally today.
