How is money deposited in EPF?
The employee’s contribution to EPF is generally 12 percent of his basic salary. At the same time, the employer’s contribution is also 12 percent of the employee’s basic salary and dearness allowance. This employer contribution is divided into two parts – one part goes to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and the other part to the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS). How to check EPF balance online?
Through EPFO member passbook portal:
- Visit the official EPFO member passbook portal.
- Enter your UAN (Universal Account Number) and password to sign in.
- Select the PF account you want to view.
- Click on ‘View PF Passbook’ for all transactions. Here you will see your balance.
Use Umang app:
UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is an app launched by the Government of India that gives access to several government services.

Steps:
- Download and install the UMANG app.
- Open the app and go to the EPFO section.
- Enter your UAN and password to sign in.
- Now you can check your EPF balance and other information.
Offline ways to check EPF balance:
Through SMS:
If your UAN is linked to your registered mobile number, you can send an SMS to 7738299899. Here you can also choose your preferred language. Within a few seconds of sending the message, you will get the current balance of your EPF account through SMS.
Through missed call:
If your UAN is linked to a registered mobile number, you can give a missed call to 011-22901406. The call will be disconnected automatically, and within a short time you will get information about your EPF balance through SMS.
