PF Claim New Rule: EPF claim become easier! EPFO has started this new facility for its members

EPFO-UAN Update: This facility will be available to those members whose Universal Account Number was issued after October 1, 2017.

EPFO-UAN KYC Update: More than 7.6 crore members of EPFO can now change personal information like name and date of birth online without employer verification or EPFO approval. This facility started from Saturday, January 18, 2025. Apart from this, members with e-KYC EPF accounts (linked with Aadhaar) of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) can directly file their EPF transfer claims online with Aadhaar OTP (One Time Password) without the intervention of the employer.

Launching both these new services of EPFO, Union Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, about 27 percent of the complaints lodged by EPFO members are related to member profile / KYC issues and after the introduction of this facility, these complaints will decline significantly. He said that requests for correction in personal details of employees will also benefit large employers with a large workforce.

The Labor Minister said that EPFO has simplified the process of joint declaration on the EPFO portal. This has allowed employees to self-correct common errors in personal information such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father / mother’s name, marital status, spouse’s name, date of joining and leaving the working organization.

For this, no verification by the employer or approval by the EPFO is required. No supporting documents are also required in such cases.

This facility will be available to those members whose UAN (Universal Account Number) was issued after October 1, 2017 (when matching with Aadhaar became mandatory).

In case the UAN was issued before October 1, 2017, the employer can correct the details even without the approval of EPFO. The need for supporting documents for such cases has also been simplified. He said that only in cases where UAN is not linked to Aadhaar, any correction will have to be physically presented to the employer and sent to EPFO for approval after verification.

UAN registration is initially done by the employer for the employee. For many employees, mistakes were made by employers in entering the father/spouse’s name, marital status, nationality and service details during or after the registration process.

To correct these errors, the employee had to make an online request with supporting documents. This request had to be verified by the employer and was also sent to the EPFO for approval. This process was called joint declaration.

Out of the eight lakh requests sent by employers to EPFO in FY 2024-25, it was seen that only 40 per cent of the requests were sent within five days while 47 per cent of the requests were sent after 10 days. The average time taken by the employer in this was 28 days. With this simplification, in 45 percent of the cases, employees will be able to make immediate corrections in personal information through Aadhaar OTP verification. In the remaining 50 percent of cases, corrections will be made through the employer.
