PNB Inoperative Accounts Rules: The country’s largest government bank – Punjab National Bank (PNB) has made an important announcement for its customers. If there has been no customer-induced transaction in a savings or current account for more than two years, it is considered a dormant account. Customers can also re-activate such accounts very easily. To reactivate such accounts, PNB is running a nationwide campaign from 17 February 2025 to 7 March 2025.
How to reactivate your account?
To reactivate inactive accounts, account holders will have to submit KYC documents. PNB is also giving the facility to customers that they can update KYC by visiting their nearest branch. The bank has made this process simple and easy so that more and more customers can reactivate their inactive accounts and avail banking facilities.

How does your bank account become inoperative?
If you do not make any customer-induced transaction in your savings account or current account for 2 consecutive years, then the bank can declare that account inactive or inoperative.
For what reasons can an account become inactive?
No transaction for a long time – If there is no withdrawal, deposit, online transfer or other activity from the account for 24 months.
Transactions done only by the bank are not valid – Activities like interest being credited or bank charges being deducted are not considered customer-induced transactions.
KYC not updated – Not updating KYC documents from time to time can also make the account inactive.
Not using it for a long time can block the account under the bank’s security policy.
How to activate an inactive account?
- Update KYC by visiting the nearest branch.
- Make any transaction (deposit, withdrawal, online transfer) in the account.
- The account can also be reactivated through the bank’s official website or mobile banking app.
- What are the disadvantages of an account being inactive?
- Interruption in online banking and ATM transactions
- Auto-debit facilities (bill payment, EMI, investment) may be stopped
- You will not be able to use other banking services related to the account
