A notification has been issued for customers by Punjab National Bank, one of the largest banks in the country. Under this, the bank has said that such savings accounts and current accounts in which no transaction has taken place during the last two years. It will be considered inactive. To reactivate an inactive account, one will have to visit the branch.

SMS and debit charges will also continue to be deducted. Let us tell you, the interest paid and charges deducted by the bank are not considered as transactions.

What is RBI’s guideline for inoperative accounts?

All banks have to follow the guidelines of RBI. According to RBI, such accounts are those from which no transaction of any kind takes place in two years. They are considered inactive and to reopen such accounts, KYC has to be done again.

Banks give information when account is inactive

If no transaction is done from an account for more than a year, the bank informs the customer about it and appeals to him to do any debit or credit transaction from the account. At the same time, if the bank considers an account inactive due to transactions for two years, then it has to give this information to the customer three months in advance.
