New Delhi. The post office savings account gets a lot of facilities. It is just like a bank account. If you also have a savings account in the post office, you can now get the benefit of another important facility. Now you can get a big profit by linking your Aadhaar to the Post Office savings account. If you link your post office savings account to Aadhaar, direct benefit transfer (DBT) of government subsidy can be availed. That means the government schemes that you are eligible for subsidy will be transferred to your Post Office savings account. The Department of Posts had issued a circular in this regard last month itself.




Changes made to the form
The circular issued by the Post Office says that the form (Application for Opening of Account/Account/Account) is being issued by the Post Office Savings Account account holders to avail the benefit of DBT facility. The circular was issued by the Post Office after the government issued a common application form for investment in public Provident Fund, National Savings Scheme and other small savings schemes in April 2020.

What is the Supreme Court order on the basis
As per the Supreme Court judgement on the constitutional validity of Aadhaar, you are not required to link your bank account to Aadhaar number. However, it is necessary to give your Aadhaar number in your bank account to avail government subsidy like pension, LPG subsidy etc. An application form for existing post office savings account holders – ‘Linking/Linking’ Application for availing DBT benefit in seeding and POSB account has been issued. You can know your balance through mobile calls from anywhere except home.
