New Delhi. Withdrawing money from Post Office account has become even easier now. The post office has simplified the rules for senior citizens who are facing difficulties in coming and withdrawing from their account on their own due to old age or any other reason. Senior citizens will also be allowed to withdraw money from the account or close the account (post office account) through any authorized person. However, to protect the depositors’ amount, the Department of Post has issued guidelines for the post office and account holders.
Application has to be made in Form 12
- At the post office, the account holder will have to make an application to the postmaster concerned in Form 12. Through this a person will be authorized to withdraw, loan or close the account from the account.
- The account holder will verify the signature of the authorized person. If the account is joint then either of the two account holders can attest the signature of the authorized person. The authorized person should not be an agent or employee of the post office.
Documents will be verified
The account holder will also have to provide a copy of the self-attested identity and address proof of the authorized person. Documents will be verified before allowing withdrawal and other actions from the account through an authorized person.
Passport can be made from Post Office
The Post Office has recently started a special facility, through which passport can be made easily. One can apply for passport from the post office itself. For this, one has to go to the Common Service Center (CSS) counter of the post office and register and apply.
