Public Holiday Announced:Â The Haryana government on Sunday announced a paid holiday in all public offices, educational institutions, boards and corporations on February 5 in view of the Delhi Assembly elections. The purpose of this holiday is to facilitate voting by the state government employees registered in Delhi.
According to an official statement, “This provision, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (amended in 1996), applies to employees who are registered voters of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, thereby facilitating them to cast their vote in the general elections.”

It further states that employees of factories, shops and private establishments in Haryana who are registered voters of Delhi will also have the right to paid leave for this purpose. Voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on February 5 and the results will be announced on February 8.
Markets will remain closed in Delhi
Let us tell you that all the markets in Delhi will also remain closed on the day of voting. The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) said that if any shop or factory is opened, then the employees should be given paid leave and there should be no cut in salary. The Chamber of Trade and Industry has said that all 700 markets in the national capital will remain closed on the day of voting on February 5.
CTI President Brijesh Goyal said that traders should ensure compliance with the orders of the Election Commission and the Labor Department. He said that in some cases shopkeepers in the retail sector can open their shops in the evening after voting. However, if any shop or factory is opened, then the employees should be given paid leave.
