Public holiday: This year, Good Friday has been declared a public holiday across the country on 18 April 2025. This day is considered very important in Christianity and is celebrated in memory of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Due to this holiday, people are getting a three-day long weekend by getting holidays on Friday as well as Saturday (April 19) and Sunday (April 20). This opportunity is great to spend time with family and make a good plan to travel somewhere.

Schools and colleges will remain closed across the country

Schools and colleges will remain closed in many parts of the country on Good Friday. This holiday will be widely applicable especially in Kerala, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Northeast states. However, parents and students must get information from their respective institutions to confirm the holiday. Many private schools also declare holiday on this day, which also gives relief to the students.

Impact on banks, markets and stock exchanges too

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banking services will remain closed across the country on April 18. Apart from this, there will be no trading in Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE). Work will also be halted in financial institutions and corporate offices on this day. Therefore, people are advised to settle important bank related work by April 17.

Holiday in government offices, but essential services continue

The central and state governments have declared a holiday in their respective offices on Good Friday. However, health services, police, fire and emergency services will continue to work as before. Citizens need not panic in any urgent situation as essential services will continue smoothly.

Religiously important day, special prayers in churches

Good Friday is very sacred for the Christian community. On this day, special prayer meetings, processions and contemplations are organized in churches across the country. People keep fast and pray. At the same time, special ceremonies are organized on Easter Sunday (April 20) to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On this occasion, a message of peace and harmony is also given in the society, in which people of other religions also participate.

Golden opportunity for holiday planning

This series of three-day holidays is a great opportunity for those who are planning to go out or relax with family. There may be an increase in crowd at tourist places and religious places, so pre-trip preparation is necessary.
