Railway concessions for Senior Citizen: The Railway Board is considering a discount for senior citizens in train tickets. However, this time some changes can be seen in the rules.
Railway concessions for Senior Citizen: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, in response to a question in the House last week, said that giving discount in train tickets adds to the cost of railways. In such a situation, it is not desirable to give discount on train tickets in all categories including senior citizens. Criticizing this reply of the Railway Minister, various stakeholders demanded restoration of the discount given to senior citizens. A railway source said that the Railway Board is considering reinstating the railway concessions given to senior citizens in tickets, although this time there may be a slight change in the rules.
Rules will change
According to the news of news agency PTI, sources said that the Railways is considering restoring the concession given to senior citizens, but this time only general and sleeper classes will get this discount. Along with this, Indian Railways can also change the age limit. He told that the Railways is considering giving discounts to people above 70 years. Earlier this limit was 58 for women and 60 for men.
Discount review
A railway source said that we understand that these concessions bring great relief to the elderly and we have never said that it has been abolished completely. We are reviewing it and will take a decision on it.
How much was the discount
According to railway rules, men above the age of 60 years and women above the age of 58 years used to get discounts in train tickets (Railway concessions for Senior Citizen). In this, there was a provision to give 50 percent discount to women, 40 percent to men and transgenders. However, after the Corona epidemic, this concession was closed by the Railways.
Premium tatkal consideration
To overcome the problem of revenue, the official said that the Railways is planning to start ‘Premium Tatkal’ in all trains. This will generate more revenue and help in reducing the losses due to discounts. This scheme is currently applicable in 80 trains.
