Mumbai: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband and businessman Raj Kundra was granted bail by a magisterial court in Mumbai on Monday. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate SB Bhajipale accepted Kundra’s bail application on a surety of Rs 50,000. After which 46-year-old Raj Kundra, who is in judicial custody in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail, has now come out of jail.
Kundra’s aide and co-accused Ryan Thorpe, who was arrested along with Kundra on July 19, was also granted bail by the court in a case related to allegedly making obscene films and publishing them through certain apps. .
Raj Kundra was arrested by the Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police after registering a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
Raj Kundra had filed a bail plea in the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court last Saturday, days after the police filed a supplementary charge sheet in the case. The businessman had claimed in his petition that he was being made a “scapegoat” in the case. At the same time, the property cell of the Crime Branch, which is probing the porn racket, has issued a lookout notice against the two absconding accused in the case.
