New Delhi: The central government has formed an inter-ministerial team to investigate three trusts belonging to the Nehru-Gandhi family, including the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. These trusts are accused of violating various laws including money laundering and foreign donations. The Congress has described it as an intimidating action.

Home Ministry tweeted: According to a spokesperson of the Union Home Ministry, the inter-ministerial team will be headed by a special director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The spokesperson tweeted, “The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has taken various legal provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Income Tax Law, Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) by Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust, Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust. An inter-ministerial team has been formed to coordinate investigation in cases of violations.
The charge was made by BJP leaders that
this decision has been taken after about two weeks when the BJP said that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has received funds from the Chinese Embassy. This charge was raised in the middle of a deadlock between the Indian Army and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China in Ladakh.
A few years ago, while attacking the Congress for receiving funds from the Chinese Embassy of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Union Minister BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned whether it was given in order to raise favor for the free trade agreement between India and China. There was ‘bribe’.
Prasad attacked the opposition party after raising this issue at a digital rally organized by BJP president JP Nadda for party workers in Madhya Pradesh.

Among the trustees of RGCT are Sonia Gandhi (head), Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Ganguly and Bansi Mehta. Its chief executive officer is Deep Joshi.
