New Delhi: One Nation One Ration Card: A big update has come about the central government’s ambitious One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme. Now the scope of food services available under this scheme is going to increase.
Preparation to start One Nation One Ration Card in Assam from September
Actually, Assam is the only state that has not been able to join the One Nation One Ration Card program. Now it is technically in the process of implementing this scheme by September this year. The benefit of this will be that people associated with this scheme will be able to get benefits in Assam as well.
A senior official of the Food Ministry gave this information on Thursday.
Under this scheme, any person holding a ration card under the National Food Security Act, will be able to get his monthly foodgrain quota from any Fair Price Shop (FRS) across the country. Portability depends on e-POS (Electronic Point of Sale) machines.
In this, Aadhaar linked biometric verification is used to verify the identity and eligibility of the beneficiaries.
“Assam has made a lot of progress in the last six months. The state government has installed 33,000 e-POS devices and is in the process of linking the same with the Aadhar card. The state is working in this direction on a war footing.
The official said that 70 per cent work of linking Aadhaar with Aadhaar has been completed so far. The central government is working in this direction with the state government on a weekly basis.
“We expect Assam to make ONORC operational by September, though we want the state to implement the scheme before that,” the official said.
At present, 35 states and union territories have been covered under the ONORC scheme, which covers 77 crore beneficiaries.
