Ration Card e-KYC: The central government has extended the last date for e-KYC for ration card holders for the fourth time to 30 April 2025. The government has clarified that this is the last chance. The ration cards of those who do not get e-KYC done by the stipulated time will be canceled and they will stop getting government grains.
The central government has once again extended the deadline for getting e-KYC done for ration card holders, which has given great relief to lakhs of beneficiaries. Now all consumers have to complete the process of e-KYC by 30 April 2025. Earlier this last date was 31 March, but due to incomplete e-KYC of a large number of people, the government has taken this decision. Departmental officials say that this is the fourth and last chance, and after this the deadline will not be extended. If a beneficiary does not take advantage of this opportunity, his ration card will be canceled and the facility of getting government grains will be terminated.
The purpose of this strictness of the government is to bring transparency in the ration distribution system and prevent fraud. For this, the state and district administration have also been instructed for strict monitoring and publicity.
More than 5 lakh beneficiaries deprived of e-KYC
A total of 15,76,222 ration card holders are registered in Kishanganj district, out of which e-KYC process of 10,66,102 people has been completed so far. This is 67.64 percent of the total target. That is, still 5,10,120 consumers (32.36%) have not been able to get e-KYC done, which is a worrying situation. Such a large number of pendencies indicate that either people are in the absence of information or are struggling with lack of facilities.
Thakurganj has the highest number of pending
If we look at block-wise e-KYC pendency, then Thakurganj block has the highest number of 92,131 beneficiaries with pending e-KYC. The status of other major blocks is as follows:
- Kochadhaman – 82,637
- Bahadurganj – 76,313
- Kishanganj – 73,322
- Dighalbank – 72,547
- Pothia – 69,054
- Tedhagachh – 44,116
It is clear from these figures that thousands of people in many blocks have still not been able to get e-KYC done, which may make it difficult for them to get ration in future.
Administration’s efforts continue
Continuous monitoring and awareness campaigns are being run by the administration, so that people can get e-KYC done in time. Despite this, people’s participation is very low. For example, on March 31, only 426 beneficiaries got e-KYC done in the entire district, which is a very low number. This shows that either the process is difficult, or there is a huge lack of information and awareness among the people. If this situation continues, thousands of people may be deprived of government food grains from May 1.
