Ration card holders: If you are a ration card holder then read this news carefully. Because after March 31, if you have not linked your ration card with Aadhaar, you will not get free ration. The central government has made e-KYC mandatory for all ration card holders to ensure transparency in ration distribution and prevent misuse of Public Distribution System (PDS).
The deadline for completing the e-KYC process is March 31, 2025. Failure to complete the e-KYC process within this period will not allow the ration card holder to get free ration. The ration card should be linked to the Aadhaar card as part of the e-KYC process.
Why e-KYC for ration card holders?
To prevent fraud, the identity of ration card holders has to be verified so that only eligible beneficiaries can avail this government assistance. Due to which duplicate or fake ration cards can be stopped.

Online way to do e-KYC of ration card
Step 1: Visit the ration card website: First of all, go to the ration card portal of your state government. Every state has a different portal, such as:
- Uttar Pradesh: https://fcs.up.gov.in
- Bihar: https://epds.bihar.gov.in
- Maharashtra: https://www.mahadiscom.in
Note: Search “State Name + Ration Card Portal” on Google to find your state’s portal.
Step 2: Login: Go to the portal and login with your ration card number and other required details. If you do not already have an account, you have to create an account first.
Step 3: Select e-KYC option: Once logged in, find the option for e-KYC in the portal. It is often named “Aadhaar based e-KYC” or “e-KYC update”.
Step 4: Enter Aadhaar card details: For the e-KYC process, you will need to use your Aadhaar card number and the OTP (One-Time Password) based on it. The OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked with the Aadhaar card. Enter this OTP on the website.
Step 5: Upload photo and documents: Some portals may require you to upload your recent photo and other documents. These documents may include information related to identity card, resident certificate, and ration card.
Step 6: Confirm e-KYC: After filling all the required information and uploading the documents, you have to submit the e-KYC process. Once this process is completed, you will see a confirmation. After this, you will get a message on your phone regarding completion of e-KYC.
