In fact, there were many complaints from the customers about irregularities in the weighing of ration, after which the government has now made it mandatory to set up electronic point of sale at ration shops. Now no ration dealer will be able to sell ration at the government ration shop without an electronic point. Through this, the process of distribution of ration is being simplified.

New rule came for government ration shops
Under the National Food Security Act, the Central Government has connected the Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) with electronic scales at ration shops to ensure that the people taking government ration get the right amount of ration. The government has implemented this new rule with the aim of increasing transparency in ration shops. Significantly, there were many complaints from the customers regarding the underweight cases.

What are the provisions of the new rule
The central government has reformed the weighing of rations under section 12 of the Act to run the Target Public Distribution System (TPDS). Through the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the government is giving 5 kg of wheat and rice per month per person to about 80 crore people of the country at subsidized rates of Rs 2 to 3 per kg.

Change in rules
With the implementation of new rules under electronic point of sale, there will be transparency in ration distribution. Also, a government official says that to encourage ration dealers to give ration through EPOS, the government will give them an extra profit of Rs 17 per quintal. This will motivate them to give ration through EPOS.
