The court says that if the government gives information to the kotdars about those cardholders who have opted for doorstep delivery of ration, then the kotedar will not have to give them from the ration shop.
The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi government to inform the operators of all fair price shops about cardholders who have opted to receive ration at home.
A bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Jasmeet Singh said that thereafter the fair price shopkeepers will not be required to supply ration to the beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (PDS) who have opted to receive ration at home. We are therefore amending our order dated 22 March 2021, the bench said.
Those opting for doorstep delivery will not need supplies from the ration shop. The
Delhi government should first write a letter to every fair price shop running the ration card holders, who have opted to get ration at home. Only then those opting for this option will not need to supply ration from the fair price shop.
It is worth noting that the Delhi Government Ration Dealers Association has challenged the Delhi Government’s ‘Mukhyamantri Ghar Ghar Ration Scheme’ in the court. The court, in its order dated March 22, had directed the AAP government to neither curtail nor stop the supply of food grains or flour to the petitioner union.
