Banks will remain open on Saturday-Sunday this week

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that all agency banks will remain open on March 30 and 31. March 30 and 31 are Saturday and Sunday. According to RBI’s notification dated March 20, 2024, the Government of India has asked all branches to open for government receipts and payments on March 31, 2024. According to RBI, the government has taken this decision to provide more facilities to the taxpayers. Banks will remain open as per their normal hours. Electronic transactions can be done on both days.

Can common people do this work on 30th, 31st March?

Transactions through Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system will continue to work till 12 midnight of March 31, 2024. That is, you can do online transactions. All checks relating to Government accounts can be presented for clearing. Special clearing session for government checks and return clearing will be informed in due course.

What are agency banks of RBI?

According to the Reserve Bank of India website, RBI appoints its agents for general banking business of governments through its own offices and commercial banks, both public and private. Government and all selected private banks work as agents of RBI. Only designated branches of agency banks can operate government banking business.
