RBI gave a big update regarding 2000 note, check here

The facility of depositing or exchanging two thousand rupees bank notes was available in all bank branches in the country till 7 October 2023. The facility of exchanging 2000 notes is available in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank from 19 May 2023.

RBI: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday gave a big update regarding the Rs 2000 note. The Reserve Bank has said that 97.96 percent of the notes worth Rs 2000 have returned to the banks. But still people have notes worth Rs 7261 crore.

The RBI had announced the withdrawal of bank notes worth Rs 2000 from circulation on 19 May 2023. The central bank said that the total value of Rs 2000 bank notes in circulation at that time was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business. It came down to Rs 7261 crore at the close of business on 30 August this year.

97.96 percent notes deposited in banks

In a statement issued by the RBI, it has been said that thus 97.96 percent of the bank notes of Rs 2000 in circulation till 19 May 2023 have returned to the banks. The facility of depositing or exchanging two thousand rupees bank note was available in all bank branches in the country till 7 October 2023. The facility of exchanging bank notes of this value is available in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank from 19 May 2023. From 9 October 2023, the issue offices of RBI are also accepting bank notes of Rs 2000 from individuals and institutions for depositing in their bank accounts.

Still a chance to deposit

Apart from this, people can send Rs 2000 notes from any post office in the country to any issue office of RBI to deposit the amount in their bank accounts. The 19 RBI offices that accept/exchange banknotes are located at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram. 2000-rupee banknotes were introduced in November 2016 after demonetisation of 1000-rupee and 500-rupee banknotes.
