RBI New Currency: New notes of Rs 100 and Rs 200 will be issued. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Tuesday that it will soon issue bank notes of Rs 100 and Rs 200 bearing the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra. RBI Chief General Manager Puneet Pancholi said on Tuesday that these new notes will bear the signature of Reserve Bank Governor Sanjay Malhotra.

What will be the design

The design of these new notes will be similar to the Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes of the existing Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. That is, their color, pattern, and security features will remain consistent with the current notes. The RBI has clarified that all the old notes of Rs 100 and Rs 200 issued earlier will also remain in circulation and will be considered valid currency. Malhotra took over as RBI Governor in December 2024, replacing Shaktikanta Das.

Why the decision is being taken

Let us tell you that this step has been taken with the aim of maintaining the supply of cash and ensuring stability in the banking system. Also, issuing notes with the signature of the new governor is a routine process, which is done after each new governor takes charge. Let us tell you that earlier the RBI had said that it would soon issue Rs 50 banknotes bearing the signature of newly appointed Governor Sanjay Malhotra. The design of these notes will be similar to the Rs 50 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. All banknotes of Rs 50 denomination previously issued by the Reserve Bank of India will continue to be legal tender.
