Retirement Age Change: In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Singh also said that the government has no policy to eliminate vacancies arising out of retirement of employees. Singh said, “The government has no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of government employees.”
7th Pay Commission: Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said on Wednesday that the government is not considering any proposal to change the retirement age of its employees. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Singh also said that the government has no policy to eliminate vacancies arising out of retirement of employees. Singh said, “There is no proposal pending with the government to change the retirement age of government employees.”
Demand for change in retirement age
When asked whether any government employee union or organization has demanded a change in the retirement age, the minister said, “No formal proposal has been received from the employees from the National Council (Joint Consultative Mechanism).” On the question of the details of the retirement age of employees of the Center and various state governments and the reasons for the disparity in their retirement age, Singh said, “No such data is kept centrally in the government as the subject comes under the state list.”
Additional pension also for the elderly when the need increases
Apart from this, in response to another question, the Center said on Wednesday that additional pension is given to old pensioners because it is appropriate in view of their needs, especially health-related conditions. Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha that additional pension is automatically paid to the pensioner / family pensioner as per the requirement by the pension disbursing authorities / banks. According to the minister, the government has approved additional pension of 20 per cent on attaining the age of 80 years, 30 per cent on attaining the age of 85 years, 40 per cent on attaining the age of 90 years, 50 per cent on attaining the age of 95 years and 100 per cent on attaining the age of 100 years as per the recommendation of the Sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC). He said that as the needs, especially related to health, increase with age, provision of additional pension has been made.
