There has been news of work for government employees from the central government. In a recent update, the government has increased the CGHS Treatment Package for government employees. The treatment in the CGHS package has been reviewed and the eligibility criteria have been increased.
There was no rate revision in this package since 2014. In view of this, the Ministry of Health has decided to increase the package rate related to CGHS through talks at many levels. This will benefit the hospitals on a large scale. This decision will put an additional burden of ₹ 240 crore to ₹ 300 crore on the government.
Hospital will not be able to refuse treatment
Now hospitals under CGHS will not be able to refuse treatment because the government has decided to increase the fees charged for hospitals, test centers under CGHS. Actually, due to the low fees, the patients under the CGHS scheme were reluctant to get the hospital treatment. In such a situation, they will get more fees from the new rate revision. The good news for more than 42 lakh employees is that now the hospitals will not be able to refuse. Also, more hospitals will be on the panel. Along with this, the rates of many tests have also been changed.

Referral now easier for government employees
Now under this scheme, the process of referral for government employees has been simplified. Now they will be able to give referral through video call also. Earlier, the CGHS beneficiary had to go to the CGHS Wellness Center himself and take a referral to the hospital, but now if the CGHS beneficiary is unable to go, he can take the referral by sending someone to the Wellness Center on his behalf. After getting the documents checked by the medical officer, he can refer the beneficiary to go to the hospital. Apart from this, the CGHS beneficiary can now also take referral through video call.
What is the extent of CGHS-
Under this scheme, 42 lakh beneficiaries are being benefitted. It has a total of 338 centers, in which allopathic and 103 are AYUSH systems. These centers are in 79 cities of the country. The number of empaneled hospitals is 1670. There are 213 diagnostic labs. Expansion is going on in Panchkula, Hubli, Narela, Chandigarh and Jammu. Preparations are on to set up 35 more AYUSH centres.
