New Delhi. Public sector steel company Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) will start commercial production of forged rail wheels at Rae Bareli unit in Uttar Pradesh by the end of December. The company’s chairman and managing director PK Rath gave this information. The Visakhapatnam company has set up a plant at Rae Bareli at a cost of Rs 1,680 crore with a production capacity of one lakh forged wheels annually.
Rath said, “We are preparing to start commercial production by the end of next month. It can start more quickly. We are waiting for foreign experts, who will come this month and do the necessary tests before starting the plant. “Rath said that after the testing of the forged wheels, the first production was to start in March-April, 2020. But it was postponed due to the enforced lockdown due to Kovid-19.
Rath said that the wheels produced at this plant will be supplied to Indian Railways. At present, 100 percent demand for wheels is not being met through local manufacturing. He expressed confidence that after the commissioning of this unit, the entire demand for railway wheels will be met domestically.
