state bank of india: State Bank of India (SBI) launched ‘Mobile Handheld Device’ to provide banking facilities to the customers at their doorstep. Under this, various bank services can be availed from the lightweight devices offered by the bank to the customers. SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara said that the objective of this initiative is to strengthen financial inclusion and provide essential banking services to the common people. This initiative is part of increasing accessibility and convenience in availing bank services.
Initially you will get the benefit of five facilities
He said that this step brings ‘kiosk banking’ directly to the customers. This gives more flexibility to customer service center (CSP) agents. This will help in reaching out to customers, especially those facing health issues, senior citizens and the disabled. Khara said that under the new initiative, initially five banking services – cash withdrawal, cash deposit, fund transfer, balance inquiry and mini statement – will be provided.
Khara said that these services account for more than 75 percent of the total transactions on the bank’s CSP. He said that the bank is also planning to start enrollment, account opening and card-based services under social security schemes later. SBI Chairman said, ‘Our aim is to make banking facilities accessible to all sections of the society, especially the unbanked, to meet the aspirations of financial inclusion.’
He said, with the introduction of mobile handheld devices, customers will have the experience of transacting at their place. This technology will provide convenient and doorstep banking services to crores of customers.
