SBI Customers Alert: Actually, fraudsters are sending a file named SBI REWARD27..APK. In which they are claiming that State Bank of India has sent you a special kind of reward. PIB has fact checked this viral message.
According to the PIB Fact Check Unit, this APK file can harm your personal data and financial security. Along with this, they have warned not to download it. Be careful before clicking on such unknown links because these links can be scams.
If you get a message to download any such APK file in which it is said that SBI will give reward on redeeming it, then avoid clicking on such a link. Because SBI never sends such links or APK files over SMS or WhatsApp.
What is APK and how do cyber criminals use APK files?
APK (Android Package Kit) is used to send and install applications on Android devices. It includes all the elements required to run the app on Android system such as code, resources, assets and the manifest file of the app. The game begins as soon as it is installed.
