SBI work-life balance circular: State Bank of India employees across the country may be surprised with this development in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. In a bid to improve the employees’ efficiency, the largest lender of the country has started giving the staff the freedom to reach home on time on one day every week. If an employee doesn’t reach home on time even after availing the benefit of the new provision, then his wife can complain to his boss. The purpose of the decision is to encourage employees to spend quality time with their respective families. This development has been reported by several regional media outlets in the two states.
As per a report by Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar, the new initiative has been implemented under the ‘Nayi Disha’ programme in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. As a pilot project, the new initiative has been implemented in 11 of the total 40 branches in Gwalior.
The bank has also started counselling employees to spend more time with their family and children.
As per the report, the employees’ wives are being given a QR code. If the husband fails to reach home on time, then she can scan the code with her mobile phone and write any comment. The wife would also have to send the husband’s name and PF number along with the complaint, which will reach senior officials.
The largest lender had circulated a work-life balance circular in 2017 also. The circular encouraged employees to reach home on time and spend more time with their families.
One of the circulars issued by SBI Hyderabad circle in 2017 said, “Our approach is that people should have proper working hours and have a work-life balance. Working on Holidays/Sundays should not be a routine practice, unless under exceptional circumstances”.
A large number of employees of the bank are reported to be working overtime to meet their official targets.
