According to the annual report for FY 2022 released by SBI , State Bank of India chairman Dinesh Khara has received a salary of Rs 34.42 lakh in the financial year 2021-22, which is higher than the salary received by his predecessor Rajnish Kumar in the financial year 2020-21. 13.4 percent higher. Dinesh Khara joined SBI in 1984 as a Probationary Officer. In October 2020, he acquired the post of chairman of SBI. Prior to this, he was in the post of MD in the bank. He was responsible for the business of Global Banking and Subsidiary of SBI.

Former SBI chairman Rajnish Kumar received a salary of Rs 30.34 lakh in the financial year 2021. Out of which Rs 14 lakh was received at the time of retirement in October 2020 under leave in cash payment. SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara has received Rs 27 lakh as basic salary in FY 2022. While Rs 742500 has been received as dearness allowance. In the financial year 2021, out of the total Rs 38.12 lakh received by the SBI chairman, 400000 lakh was received as incentive.

In comparison, in the financial year 2022, LV Prabhakar, MD and CEO of Canara Bank, has got Rs 36.89 lakh. While Bank of Baroda has given Rs 40.46 lakh as salary to its MD and CEO Sanjeev Chadha. It is noteworthy that SBI has appointed an external company in FY 2022, which has helped the bank in setting standards for performance evaluation of directors, chairman, board level committee and central board.

It is noteworthy that the salaries paid by the central government to the people appointed to the big posts of public sector banks are much less than the salaries paid by the private banks to their leaders. For example, HDFC MD and CEO Shashidhar Jagadeesan got a salary of Rs 4.77 crore during FY21. Similarly, Axis Bank MD Amitabh Choudhary has received Rs 6 crore as salary in the same period.

Bankers say that this difference in the salary of people appointed to the top posts of public and private banks has been a point of contention for a long time. Experts say that due to this huge gap, good talent is not attracted from the side of public sector banks.
